CAMPAGNOLO BORA ONE DISC 35 CLINCHER WHEELSET

The Campagnolo Bora One 35 Clincher rim is light and strong enough that Campy saw fit to extend its range to include a Disc Wheelset version of it. It offers the same performance characteristics as the rim brake version—which is light and aero, a great wheel for climbing and riding hard on the flats--but is spoked and hubbed to work with disc brake frames that take 700c wheels. Thanks to its weight and shape, it will do great work on road bikes, endurance bikes, cyclocross bikes, and adventure bikes.

The most important feature of the wheel is the rim. The rim is considered by Campy to be mid-depth, but these days, most see it as shallow. It is 35mm deep, with a 23.5mm external width. The depth is to make sure you’re getting an aero benefit in all conditions. The width is for wider tires. They’re assuming you’ll want to run 23 or 25mm wide tires to maximize both the comfort and rolling resistance, but you can easily go as wide as your frame allows. The internal channel is smooth, save for the valve hole, so there’s no need for rim tape. The shape is a modified airfoil and flattened for weight savings. The rim is also designed to come out of the box balanced for the valve stem of your tube. They call it RDB, Rim Dynamic Balance. This makes the wheel accelerate smoother and some believe reduces the wattage needed to power the wheels at a given speed.

As you can imagine the spoking patterns and hubs are different. The spoke count, both front and rear, is 24 spokes. Campy does things a bit differently by utilizing their G3 spoking pattern, which groups two spokes from one side with a single spoke from the other to maximize torsional stiffness while keeping the spoke tensions high.

The hubs are designed to have thru-axles as the means by which they are fixed to the bicycle. The front is 100x12mm, the rear, 142x12mm. They are also designed with splined mounting for brake rotors. Campagnolo calls it AFS, Axial Fixing System. It essentially is identical to Centerlock, and is cross-compatible with Centerlock and Centerlock-compatible rotors.

When purchasing the wheel, you need to specify whether you need a Campagnolo 9/10/11-speed cassette body or a SRAM/Shimano-compatible 9/10/11-speed cassette body. You also need to specify Bright Label or Dark Label, which is how the logos look.

Weight for the Campagnolo Bora One Disc 35 Clincher Wheelset is 1483g.
